A simulation of an emergency on board of the frigate “Blas de Lezo” showed how Situm indoor positioning technology allows a more controlled, coordinated and quick response.
The simulation consisted in an intervention to extinguish a fire . The real time positioning of the place where the fire was declared and the coordination of the extinguishing workforce through its tracking, allowed the reduction of voice communications and a more controlled, coordinated and agile response.
After the tests, during a conference about artificial intelligence, other practical applications of indoor positioning in emergency situations were also pointed out. Among others, its usefulness in the case of “man overboard”, allowing an immediate detection of the fall and enabling the quickest reaction , or the functionality of “panic button”, to locate someone last position even if after a catastrophic incident communication is imposible.
As a conclusion to the tests the Commander-Director of the School, Capt. Antonio Vallés Sales, highlighted the innovation of Situm’s technology, “at the level of other intelligent automation techniques solutions proposed by other allied navies “and their gratitude for allowing an experience of formative value for this School of the Spanish Navy.
