Situm’s indoor positioning operates without any dedicated infrastructure. However, to ensure coverage of all types of devices, guidance solutions need the support of Bluetooth beacons. With our new tool, it will be easier and more effective to manage the maintenance of their batteries.
Situm’s indoor positioning system does not necessarily require dedicated infrastructure. Equipment monitoring and tracking solutions are deployed quickly and inexpensively precisely because of this: you only need to combine smartphone signals with those already present in the buildings to achieve accurate positioning.
Optimal infrastructure management for an excellent user experience
In the case of indoor guidance solutions, however, the situation is somewhat different. The iOS operating system and some Android versions have certain limitations when it comes to detecting WiFi, which is essential for Situm’s positioning system.
To overcome this issue, we install a few beacons emitting Bluetooth signals, the bare minimum needed to provide full coverage to mobile devices: 1 beacon per 600m2 in open spaces (or 30m in corridors), a saving x10 compared to market alternatives. As a result, we ensure the correct positioning of all devices for end-users.
A wider range of dates to check the beacon status
Another new feature of this infrastructure control panel is the ability to modify the range of listening dates of the beacons to obtain a more global view of their status.
In these cases, the control panel provides optimal management and maintenance of the infrastructure, including the WiFi network. This resource, in addition to reducing maintenance costs, allows us to inventory, locate and check the status of our beacons and routers, and above all, ensures that the system always works correctly. As a result, the user experience of a guidance app is satisfactory at all times and in any part of the building.
Until now, we were able to know which beacons had been listened to during the last month. However, by modifying this date range, now you can check more precisely the status of the infrastructure over longer or shorter periods. The data obtained allows a more accurate view and thus ensures the correct maintenance and operation of the system.
Improvements in the infrastructure control panel: monitoring the battery status
The capacity of this platform will also be completed with the functionality to alert the user of the remaining battery percentage of each of the installed beacons. This will make it even easier to perform preventive maintenance, providing our customers with greater autonomy and control, as well as being able to export reports with the data collected.
