Situm’s mobile SDK integrates the best indoor guidance experience into any app developed for smartphones. To make this process even easier for our customers, we have introduced the option to configure its different parameters remotely, thus avoiding the need to recompile and redeploy the app with every change.
Initially, this possibility is available for our Android SDK, restricted to the parameters related to positioning. We will soon announce further developments in the same direction.
Situm SDK, the best choice for enriching apps with indoor navigation
Situm’s SDK helps incorporate indoor geolocation into apps for shopping malls, stadiums, hospitals, airports, museums, and any large, complex building.
Integrators will be able to incorporate this technology into their mobile apps so that their users can enjoy:
- Indoor, but also outdoor guidance. Shopping malls, museums, hotels and airports, among others, have already implemented it.
- Cartography visualization.
- Directory of points of interest with relevant information and step-by-step visual, text or voice guidance from the user’s location to them.
Although integrating these tools is a smooth process for most integrators, it is not uncommon for issues to arise when selecting the configuration parameters: Do I want to use GPS? WiFi or Bluetooth beacons? How often do I want to send positions to the Situm cloud? Do I want to save battery power, or do I prefer higher reliability?
To facilitate this configuration process, our clients have the support of our documentation and our Customer Success department, which from now on will also benefit from the Remote Configuration functionality.
Remote Configuration for smoother integration with Situm’s Android SDKSitum
Until now, setting the right parameters in Situm SDK meant trying out different combinations to find the best fit for each building or use case. There was also the possibility of making a mistake during the process and not applying the right settings. In either case, making further changes required recoding, recompiling, and redeploying the app.
With the new feature, the programmer will simply have to set the desired parameters through the Situm Dashboard. Every time the SDK starts the positioning, it will load the last published configuration. The configuration process is therefore much more streamlined, practical and intuitive.

Upcoming releases for remote configuration
We are already working to include the positioning parameters’ remote configuration feature in our iOS SDK. In addition, we are still working to have the rest of the settings (indoor navigation, floor plan visualization, POI search…) available soon in all SDKs (Android, iOS, Cordova and React Native).
