The new version of the cartography REST API for indoor location allows not only to consume the cartographic elements, but to modify all their properties programmatically without having to enter the Situm Dashboard.

Situm Dashboard: The multifunction control panel to manage indoor navigation and indoor tracking solutions
Situm Dashboard is the tool of Situm’s indoor positioning platform that allows to create buildings and easily manage all their cartography through multiple functionalities:
- Uploading plans and updating them as much as we want.
- Create various points of interest, such as stores in malls or boarding gates at airports.
- Delimit polygonal areas (geo-fences) where we will generate events and get analytics when users enter or leave.
- Define all the navigation paths of our building and guide our users.
In other words, with this multifunctional control panel, we can keep our building’s information permanently updated, so that users of navigation and monitoring solutions deployed inside the building will always have their most current version.
Situm Cartography REST API: To show and manage indoor positioning data in third party systems
Our REST APIs, on the other hand, allow any developer to consume all this information and integrate it with their own applications and even third party systems. Through these APIs we can build products that exploit and show the cartography stored in Situm with any other information from our business or use case. For example, we may have developed a content management system (CMS) for shopping malls: we could display building plans and store locations retrieved from our APIs, and mix that information with other store data we host in our database.
But… what happens if a store changes location, or if we want to change the plans, or draw new geofences? Until now, we only had one option: the user had to leave the application, enter Situm Dashboard and change them. Although effective, this caused a less unified and fluid experience, requiring the user to use and know two different tools when in fact, he would want to use only one.
To solve this inconvenience, we have launched a new version of our cartography REST API that allows not only to consume the cartographic elements, but to modify all their properties programmatically. This way, the user doesn’ t need to enter the Situm Dashboard panel. Therefore, Situm can be used as a complete indoor cartography backend or database, and any developer can build its products with total flexibility through a totally unified experience and the ability to both display and modify the cartography from the application itself.
