GAIA (Geospatial Assistance for Intelligent Acknowledgment) is Situm’s new product, revolutionizing the way indoor geospatial information is created, managed, and visualized. This platform is the result of an ambitious R&D project funded by the Galician Institute for Economic Promotion, the European Union–NextGenerationEU, and the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Function through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, within the framework of the IA360 grants for the development of AI-based products. Its goal is to make buildings smarter, more efficient, and more accessible.
The solution to a common challenge in complex environments
Factories, hospitals, airports, and large corporate buildings all share a common challenge: how to efficiently manage the vast amount of geospatial information generated within their facilities. Traditionally, this information is scattered across PDF blueprints, GIS systems, technical platforms, or ad-hoc solutions that do not communicate with each other, are not designed with the end user in mind, and make data retrieval difficult.
GAIA was created precisely to address this need. The platform enables any organization to structure, access, and visualize building information in an intuitive, contextual, and personalized way — all powered by advanced location technologies and artificial intelligence techniques.
A modular and scalable platform with intelligent assistants
The product is structured into three main modules:
- Creation and editing of indoor maps: users can transform technical blueprints into interactive digital maps without the need for advanced knowledge. Thanks to AI, the system automates the detection of spaces and key elements, enabling fast and collaborative editing.

- Management and enrichment of geospatial information: GAIA allows key data such as images, videos, links, procedures, access points, and more to be linked to any location within the building. All this information can be integrated with existing systems (ERP, BMS, CMMS) and automatically enhanced with AI through features like translation, semantic tagging, and categorization.

- Intelligent visualization and information retrieval: users can access information through interactive maps, augmented reality, or conversational assistants powered by natural language processing. GAIA displays the most relevant data at any given moment according to the user’s profile, even providing optimized routes or voice-guided descriptions.

Use cases across multiple sectors
The flexibility of GAIA allows it to be applied in a wide variety of scenarios:
- Navigation and wayfinding assistant in large buildings
- Support for onboarding new employees
- Advanced task and asset management
- Visualization of critical information in industrial or healthcare environments
- Intelligent safety and evacuation systems
- Optimization of workspace utilization
- Voice- and context-based information retrieval
GAIA transforms the building into an “interactive digital twin”, where each… trabajador o visitante puede consultar, interactuar y actuar en función de su localización, perfil y necesidades.
A product developed with a global vision
The GAIA project aims to deliver a production-ready platform that clients can use through agile methodologies, pilots in real environments, and continuous validation with end users — demonstrating its ability to adapt to different sectors and use cases.
In addition, the development of GAIA has involved collaboration with technological partners such as CITIC and SREC Solutions, both leading organizations in the field of artificial intelligence applied to spatial data management and intelligent assistants.
Availability and next steps
