A new video about the success case of the integration of indoor navigation in the Aena app, a project carried out between the airport manager, Telefónica, Carto and Situm.
For about a year now, the Aena app has included an indoor guidance option designed to accompany passengers at all stages of their journey. Developed on Situm’s indoor positioning platform, this solution was created as part of Telefónica’s digitalization process, including CARTO’s cartographic resources.
“When considering our digital transformation strategy, we decided that the wayfinding system was the best valued among all the proposals to improve the passenger experience.”
Julián Marcos Vázquez, Aena’s head of Commercial and Digital Business
Already operational at Spain’s 7 main airports (Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, Aeropuerto Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, Aeropuerto Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, Aeropuerto de Málaga-Costa del Sol, Aeropuerto de Palma de Mallorca, Aeropuerto de Gran Canaria and Aeropuerto de Tenerife Sur) this in-building guidance option includes several features:
- Step-by-step instructions along the entire route, automatically locating the passenger and the floor where they are located.
- Estimated time of arrival at the destination, including waiting times at security checkpoints.
- Directory and information on the airport’s points of interest: from commercial establishments to services such as restaurants, emergencies, assistance points, etc.
- Adapted routes for people with reduced mobility.
This project is a great success case for Situm as well as for Aena, Telefónica and CARTO, as it has managed to offer an indoor guidance solution that provides the best experience for all the passengers using these facilities.
