Indoor positioning fields of application: navigation and tracking

Indoor positioning is not as advanced as outdoor geolocation. You may have noticed that GPS does not works indoors, that the signal is lost and that you cannot take into account your movements and navigation indoors. This is why the technology keeps moving forward. So, different solutions are being developed to manage indoor location effectively.

As you may have noticed, tracking indoors does not work the same as outside the buildings. For this reason, the main geolocation companies are working today to offer a location service in closed spaces. Even if you are not going to use them everywhere, you will find them make sense in many large stores. For example, in the huge shopping malls that have proliferated so much in our society in recent decades.

Indoor positioning for retail

At malls, meanwhile the user can easily find the spaces they are looking for, Situm’s wayfinding solution allows the mall to know exactly how many time  visitors spent on it and where they have been. It also allows to carry out geolocalized promotions,

Other sectors can take advantage of indoor indoor positioning systems, such as logistics. In logistics, packages and products have been successfully identified and are always under the control of their managers automatically. Employees could also be geolocated, so that you can move between them.

Areas that can take advantage of indoor tracking

If indoor location can enhance a user’s experience on a personal level, the management of large work teams can clearly benefit from this type of constant location, such as health, transport, hospitality, security and facility management in general. It is also an opportunity to develop new forms of advertising impact and, of course, an indispensable tool for integrators or robotics experts.

Definitely, it is clear that indoor positioning is a need with growing appeal.  Accustomed to use GPS to locate and take you to the exact address you are pointing at, how could you not want it to tell you how to get to a store in a huge shopping mall in the fastest possible way? Gradually, more sectors will take advantage of advances in these new technologies to improve their processes and services through indoor geolocation.BACK TO BLOG
