Interpersonal distance, the key for a safe return to the office

If we take a look at the history of architecture, we can see that every epidemic has contributed to adding changes and improvements to the work environment. For example, after tuberculosis, metallic door knobs were implemented; after cholera, pipeline shapes were changed, and after the plague door, frames and tiles were introduced. These were changes that came to stay and overall contributed to the improvement of health conditions for everyone.

Nowadays, on a less alarming scale, Covid-19 threatens to change office work dynamics one more time. On overcrowded environments such as the headquarters of many companies, the key to safety may be keeping interpersonal distances, which is something that may not always be achievable and therefore supposes a big challenge to overcome. With the arrival of Covid-19, offices have been deserted.   • Enable accesses.

How to improve the office life during new normal?

Companies are facing important challenges: from organizing work to the dynamics inside their facilities. Elevators, for example, are proving to be quite a headache, because there are buildings in which going up the stairs is not an option and using the elevator, with the new occupancy percentages, could take all day.

Besides, until the new routine is put in place and even beyond that moment, offices may turn into a continuous showcase of explanatory signage, be it in the form of text, graphs or maps that indicate how to make use of the space or how to circulate through the facilities. By experience, we all know that these resources may be helpful but they can also contribute to chaos amongst the numerous staff. There is nothing that can be more stressful to us than feeling like we won’t know how to act or how to move when push comes to shove.

On the other hand, given current economic uncertainty, the large majority of companies have dismissed having to make big investments to adapt interior spaces to the new rules. So a mixed working model is what is currently being established, in which working from home and from the office are both plausible options that guarantee staff safety and contributes to a flexible, low investment, adaptation to the new normal.

What does all this translate to?

  • Geolocated notifications on Disinfection Points: given the fact that personnel should follow strict hygiene guidelines, the system can send notifications that remind people  what protocols to follow when passing through a certain area.
