I-SEC, the international leader in airport security, implements Situm for surveillance management at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport

I-SEC Group, European leader specialized in airport security services, has successfully implemented Situm’s indoor and outdoor tracking technology to manage its staff and processes at Adolfo Suárez Madrid Barajas Airport.

Airports are one of the most complicated spaces to manage, administer, direct and, above all, protect. I-SEC, a group specialized in this type of security for three decades, has more than 7.000 employees and operates in top-level airports in countries such as Holland, Germany, Italy, Denmark, Norway, South Korea or Japan. Since 2020 it has been awarded the security of the airport of the Spanish capital. I-SEC has relied on Situm’s technology to manage Madrid’s services and staff with geolocation solutions.

Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport: a large, complex and very demanding space

This airport is a major challenge from the security point of view. It is the 2nd largest airfield in Europe, with 31km2 and 4 terminals where 41,000 people work every day.

I-SEC manages the security in terminals and airspace with patrols at these points, in addition to the airport perimeter.

For this important task, the company has chosen to incorporate Situm’s positioning technology into its services and processes. Ignacio Gracia, CEO of I-SEC Spain, emphasizes that “Situm allows us to know in real time where each of our operations staff is, regardless of whether it is outside, in the basement of a terminal, or on any of its floors”.

The challenge: efficiently manage more than 500 security guards to ensure airport security

The main challenge for I-SEC in its work to achieve the highest level of security at an airport that is also the main connection between Europe and Latin America is not so much to deploy its personnel throughout the facility but to efficiently manage all these workers and make sure they are in the right place, exactly when they need to be.

How to manage a large and diverse workforce that performs different tasks in a massive, high-security facility? Not to mention the goal of every company to increase productivity and comply with the highest efficiency guarantees.

The solution: Situm IPS platform for geolocation surveillance management

In addition to allowing to know the exact position of all personnel in real time, the company’s CEO highlights how the close collaboration with Situm during the system’s implementation has allowed to adapt it to the fundamental aspects that are part of the day-to-day management of the airport’s security:

  • The geopositioned tasks and patrol’s function “allows us to establish control patrols at specific checkpoints, modify them and obtain information on their effectiveness and compliance, as well as assign tasks to these patrols. We can send images, alerts, etc“.

  • Analytics and reports. Obtaining clear and well-organized information is also a critical part, as it “allows us to analyse the effectiveness of our service, either through the indicators obtained or, importantly, through heat maps that highlight the areas where the necessary attention is not being paid“. This simplicity in extracting information is an organizational advantage. It eliminates the need to send large files by accessing all the data in real time, thus speeding up the service, a common demand of I-SEC’s clients.

  • Real-time alertsallow us to deploy the closest patrols to the scene of an incident as quickly as possible, as well as to know where the other crews are and whether they are positioned correctly“.

Ignacio highlights the figure that summarizes the achievements made after implementing Situm’s solution: “” Situm’s implementation has clearly and differentially increased the quality of our service”.

Situm’s geolocation solutions, as this experience with I-SEC Spain at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport shows, are perfectly adaptable and compatible with the specifics of each service, the facilities in which it is developed and the number of personnel to be managed, as well as being integrated into proprietary platforms.
